Specialist Optometrist
After a year of post graduate study at Cardiff University, a long series of clinics in the eye department at the Princess of Wales in Bridgend and then successful completion of the College of Optometrists' final examination, Chris qualified as an Independent Prescriber and joined the General Optical Council's (GOC) register of Specialist Optometrists.
NHS prescriptions
Following a thorough examination and diagnosis of the condition, an NHS prescription can then be issued by Chris for whatever drops or tablets are required. Previously such treatment would have required the patient to be referred to a hospital eye department.
Independent Prescribing Optometrists Service (IPOS)
The Welsh Government funded IPOS enables Chris (and any other Specialist IP Optometrist) to see not only patients from Llantwit Major but any patient referred to him from across the health authority whose eyes require medical treatment.
Independent Prescribing (IP)
The Welsh Government funded Independent Prescribing Optometrists Service (IPOS) enables non IP practices to refer patients to a Specialist IP practice for further examination, diagnosis and treatment.
